Alison Gingell, Chair of NHS Coventry, said:
“I am delighted that Jenny is helping to raise
the profile of breastfeeding in the city. Breastmilk
gives babies all the nutrients they need for the first six
months of life and helps protect them from infection and diseases.
It also reduces mothers' chances of getting certain diseases later in life.

Breastfeeding also allows you and your baby to get closer - physically and emotionally. So while your child is feeding, the bond between you can grow stronger.”

There are many benefits by signing up to the Breast Buddy initiative, you'll receive texts of encouragement for the first few months as well as an information pack including the NHS Breastfeeding Guide and details of the National Breastfeeding Helpline 0844 209 0920.

Children's Centre in Wood End, Coventry.

She talked to them about their experiences of breastfeeding and about Breast Buddy, an initiative to encourage mums to nominate a
buddy from their circle of friends and family, to provide practical and emotional support while they breastfeed.

Why Breastfeed?

For mothers,breastfeeding helps to:
• Strengthen your bones
• Lower your risk of getting ovarian
   or breast cancer
•Get your pre-pregnancy figure back   more quickly.

For babies, breastfeeding:
• protects against diarrhoea,   gastroenteritis, ear and chest   infections,
• reduces the risk of diabetes or   eczema, and means their nappies
  are less smelly.

You will also receive a text number to give to your nominated buddy,so they can receive texts of
encouragement to help you with breastfeeding. Mums-to-be and new mums can register by texting
BUDDY to 60022

but there were hard times so it really helps to have support so you can
keep on going. I'm so happy to be involved with this initiative because having recently had a baby of my own, I understand how valuable a bit of extra help is, in addition to that offered by your midwife or health visitor.”
