My Story...
Debbie Linster-Ali
THIRTYSOMETHINGMUM
The next part of my makeover was to be carried out at complexions in Coundon, this involved all of my beauty treatments, Kelly my therapist was brilliant!! The first weeks pampering included a facial, eyebrows and eyelash tinting!
My second week included a back massage followed by the next few weeks having a pedicure, manicure and a spray tan which was hilarious. I felt like a new woman after I had my teeth whitened by Sunny of The Chic Teeth Clinic. He made a mould of my teeth and I also had a scale and polish which was great. With the whitening I had moulds of my teeth made similar to gum shields and in the tooth spaces I had to apply a blob of bleach every night until it was finished, it was amazing watching the gradual changes, friends and family commented on how they could see the colour change in my teeth.
The hard work began with my 6 week use of the Ricoh gym but I have to say I really enjoyed it, the people who work there are really friendly and helpful, I was however, diagnosed with quite severe anaemia (again from not eating properly), so I did take the gym really slowly as I was really tired if I over did it. The anaemia affected my eating as well, the second week I met with Gail she weighed me and I had lost a couple of pounds which was fantastic and really gave me a boost to continue with my hard work at the Gym and my diet change.
From then on it was a roller coaster until the iron had started to kick in, but I found with the foods that Gail had advised me to eat was helping me to control my sugar levels. I have carried on eating healthily even now the competition is just a nice memory!
During Christmas I didn't sacrifice my love of Christmas food and chocolate but, on the downside of over indulging just for a few days I have noticed that I have got some spots back and could feel my energy levels lagging, so for me it shows how the foods that I ate over Christmas and my previous diet had actually been bad for my body.
After Christmas it was back to my new healthier eating plan, which has meant that I have cut back on fatty foods. One useful tip that Gail gave me was that your plate should be split into a quarter carbs, quarter protein and half veg; I have followed that rule and its working!!
I have to say I have loved every minute of the makeover, Noah, stayed at the Birches in Coventry for respite while I went to meet Gail, the gym, complexions and Sunny, and I have to say I was pushed for time but, it was great, and I felt better when I picked Noah up more relaxed.More
ad a phone call one Friday evening to say I had won this makeover competition, I was ecstatic. Things are not that easy at home, I care for my terminally ill son Noah who
has Edwards Syndrome, which surprisingly is the most
common syndrome after Downs. So when I was contacted about winning the competition for the makeover it was just fantastic, exactly what the doctor ordered!!
met Gail, who is the Nutritionist
expert on the thirtysomethingmums panel, who was great! She explained how the makeover would work and
the not so good aspect of how to eat more healthily and hopefully
combined with the other activities I would be involved in help me loose a bit of those unwanted few pounds!! After Gails advice, and being a vegetarian I bought some multi vitamins and stocked up on seeds, fruit and veg. I had not eaten
properly for a few years, as before Noah was born we had a son Jacob but, tragically he was still born and
my health really suffered after this experience.
